Hey,

It's tough business trying to represent this country. There are basically 2 America's fighting to survive at the same time. We get upset with our officials when they "flip-flop" w/o holding oursevlves to the same scrutiny.

We can't turn an aircraft carrier around on a dime. It takes small corrections. But the American public wants immediate change. As if the problems we are having today are from....today...

Yes the corruption stinks. Yes people are ignorant. Yes there is a lot we don't know. But give our leaders a break. Why is it always the leaders' fault for EVERYTHING. We are responsible for ourselves, our own money, our own decisions...

When the Iron curtain fell... and the USSR collapsed... capitalism flourished...but there were a lot of communist that missed out on the perks and benefits they were given under the communist party. Even thought they are living in a free society with food on the shelves and relative prosperity....there are a large number of communists that would love for the return. I think that the Democrats and Republicans are the same way... The "insiders" have a vested interest. The lobbyists, consultants, favored contractors, relatives, friends of the ruling party get all the perks.... making it next to impossible for a true third independent party to rise up and make a difference. The system is "fixed". It's more crooked than a slot machine at a Starbucks in Reno...so the only solution is for citizens like us to write blog articles and e-mails and whine and complain to each other....until someone gets motivated to actually do something.

The problems are easy to define. The solution - how do we get our elected officials to make the public good their primary focus again - is much more illusive. Campaign finance is largely institutionalized corruption. Our leaders put self interest ahead of the public good. They value loyalty above qualifications when appointing others to important government positions.

The press used to be a public trust. Now it is a profit center. Members of the press have become close friends with the government officials they should be monitoring and, in some cases, investigating.

It use to be that the democratic party was the big government party and the republicans were for small government. Now both major parties are for big government and big spending. Increasing numbers of people are disgusted with both major parties but are powerless to do anything about it. Ross Perot spent a small fortune to create a third major party and it fizzled.

The High School drop-out rate is at all time high. Newspaper readership is at an all time low. Most people get their information about politics from comedians Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, David Letterman, and the slanted biased reporters of CNN, NBC, ABC....In a recent poll over 80% of the population doesn't know who Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid is. With little information except TV commercials, the people will vote on the president of the most powerful richest nations leadership. No one we are so screwed up. As citizens of a great and free nation, it is our obligation to get "involved". We must take action to ensure our economy, our freedoms, and constitution is intact for future generations.....We can make it happen! This forum is to discuss ideas to make sure people become informed on the truth and facts of the political system. God Bless America!
